This glass top, Frigidaire convection stove is in! That was a week long journey into hell! 😉
Originally I had this old drop in oven! I kept having to buy new ones every 10 years or so! Why? Dunno! Yet after this last failure I was not looking forward to spending $2000 base model for a new range!
So I bit the bullet and opted for a slide in range! Now getting the old one pulled and out of here was the easy part!
Destroying the built in mounts was the difficult part!
So with a bit of luck. An unsteady hand a 3 dremel tools. I got started! I found that the dremel rotary cutting tool worked real well!
It allowed me to drop into the counter, Formica, wood and all without chipping or damaging the counter tops! I also found if you remove the guard. It works real well at cutting through a nailed in board….. with great attention to not taking out the Sheetrock with the wood cut!
Now not only did I have ( laughing as this is not a low dollar build house! ) particle board In the cabinetry. I also had solid oak to get theough!
That wood bit did it all up until the last cut! Overheated and finally snapped! 🙂 luckily the kit comes with 2 almost identical bits! So the second one got me finished!
Doing this all by hand caused some raunchy cuts! Luckily a quick sand with a block and wammo edges are straight and looks decent!
So with that all finished I had to wait for the electrician to come out and move the receptacle down the wall!
Leaving intact the old one in case a new stove happens again!
As the whole in the counter is 30” and ofcourse the stove is 29.5” I have a gap on both edges! To fill that I used a stainless steel edging and to keep it leak proof. I added a silicone edging piece to really fill in the gap and make it more “ waterproof” for spills!
I tested out 2 different versions! One that’s more of a T style ( right side ) and one that’s more of a corner style! ( left side )
Any questions ask! Otherwise this project is done except for finding a silicone piece to put in the back against the tile to finish it off!
P.s. make sure to set your stove at counter top level! FYI…..
Interesting twist! Electrician came out and moved the plug for the range! Not a cheap venture but not overly expensive! $300-$400 range!
I asked him to please keep access to the upper box so I can in the future if needed use that one again!
Now the twist is, even with the recessed space on the back of the stove. It’s still 1/4” or so from the wall!
So now I need to figure out how to deal with that! If for some reason it’s not a simple fix. I will have to live with it, But how?
As of yet I have not benable to find a recessed or thin line range cable? I have however Benable to find a rear stove gap filler! A lot like the ones I’m using on the sides….
So later today when I finish this install I’ll let you know how this works out…..
To get insulation on there In not to long! The coons that I’m guessing one of the neighbors caught de-insulated the control wires.
So before I could flip that bitch back on I had to electrical tape them where the insulation had been removed! luckily the actual wires are a solid copper piece.
All fixed and works well! Cujo and I set it to 68 and that’s where we’re going to leave it for now!
Oh that’s the central ac lines for those who don’t know! Builder install reem system that still works well 25 years after install! 🙂
Too bad the furnace blew out 10 years ago! 🙂
Eventually when that ac gets replaced. We will install a solid metal foundation plate with holes for the lines. Until then I will upkeep the builder’s install….. 🙂
Pisses me off! My new dinnerware was supposed to arrive today! 🙁
The only reason I’m expediting this change is cus when I was eating dinner the other night. I sparked my fork against the plate and a big chunk of the edge fell off the plate!
I can’t eat that food with pieces of stoneware in it!
Fortunately the restaurant version of these plates are holding up very well! I’m guessing due to the edges being much thicker!
Anyhoot, I love these plates but that shit ain’t cool. So I went with a couple sets of the fiesta bistro series!
Same color plates as the bonita with different colored bowls as pictures above!
I was hoping to do the switch today in the cupboards but guess not…..
Find this stove without the bread warmer! If I can find it I will be sticking with a drop in! If not I’ll be getting this in the slide in version and having someone adjust the cabinets to fit….
I am so happy I broke down today and checked the lock on the oven door! Just randomly wanted to see if I could short out the switch or something so I could use the oven until the new stove arrives!
So glad I did cus that things been broken for a couple weeks now! I took the top off the stove went down to pull the wires and the motor on the switch was red hot! I mean scorchen hot!
Odd thing was all I had done was taken the top off the stove! Hadn’t fucked with anything yet! So if that would have stayed that way. I’m sure it would have eventually melted down or caught fire!
Why is that a big deal? Cus that motor is above the fire proof insulation and right under the wiring harness for the stove!
Now it probably would have just shorted out and popped the breaker! But ya never know…..
Any hoot, tally ho…..
FYI that replacement part is $160. Not worth the cost to replace!
Cujo for a walk tonight! Looked over and my bonsai Japanese maple is looking killer! I’m thinking I’m gunna have to get that bitch into a permanent planter quick!
Anyone got a half wine barrel planter for sale….. a real one!
We go! I’m burning the first 2 official candles! 1 lavender wich is citrus and the other is pink wich is cherry blossom scent!
Now these are trial runs before I make a few to give out and get a response from others on what they think….
I now know I can’t use these wicks! They put of puffs of black smoke on occasion! That’s not acceptable! I also know that 1 eye dropper of scent doesn’t give off enough good smelling stuff for my acceptability!
I also know that I will probably have to use 2 thinner wicks to get a good clean burn of the whole candle!
With that said, I’ll watch the burn, see how long I can get on each 4oz jar!
I like to think I’m a very creative person! I love colors and matching them to make a pertty image or object!
I can’t paint and I can’t play guitar every minute. So creativity pops its head out all the time! I’m not on the road anymore so finding creative ways to crack hotel WiFi routers isn’t in the daily fun circus anymore!
Yea I could fuck with my neighbors that I’m not fond of. But why? I have to see them daily! 🙂
I digress, I’m also really fond of good smelling candles burning in the house! It makes the house smell good and warm! I also know for the price of 2 Yankee candles I was able to buy enough shit to make 30 candles!
So I let creativity win and wammo, I’m making candles I also know that like everything I do! I find ways to be the best…..
Then I get bored and will eventually get back to buying Yankee candles and more From the bbw store…..
The bad news! The shipping on this is far more than previously expected from Italy! No way in hell would I pay €150.00 euro! Fuck I complained about the $100 usd I originally spent!
So unfortunately this piece will stay in Italy!
Luckily I had more than one option! So the new umbrella/katana rack will be…..
